Why did I become a family photographer?
I am a photographer based in Portland, Oregon. Trained as an engineer, I have always been drawn to details and quiet observation. I bought my first Canon camera at 20 and returned to photography more intentionally at 40, following an inner voice to turn my passion into my career.
Having lived in China (Wuhan, Dalian,), Singapore, and now the United States, my experiences across cultures shape how I see people and moments.
I work mostly with natural light and prefer to observe quietly, capturing subtle emotions and fleeting moments that reveal the beauty of everyday life.

Why Documentary Family Photography?
I’m drawn to documentary family photography because I believe real moments matter more than perfect ones. In the past, I photographed weddings and often felt that heavily posed images looked beautiful but distant—like they could belong to anyone. The same poses, the same smiles, repeated again and again.
In a time when AI can generate flawless images, authenticity becomes even more precious. Every family is unique—the light in their home, the rhythm of their day, the laughter, the tears, the small moments that pass quickly but mean everything.
My work is simply to be present, observe quietly, and preserve those moments as they are. I am not aiming for perfect photos, since perfect photos are often made to show others, while imperfect photos are the ones we keep for ourselves.
What is my Strength?
My innate sensitivity and perceptiveness, which allows me to notice subtle emotions and fleeting moments that others might miss.
I didn’t come from a traditional art background. Before photography, I worked in a completely different field. What I bring instead is something else but unique— maturity, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility. I spend time carefully communicating with each family before the session: learning about their routines, preferences, and the moments they hope to remember. I also offer guidance on clothing and small details in the home that can help create a more natural environment for photographs.
I’m here as a trusted companion—someone who listens, understands, and sees you through genuine connection. In my photographs, you are both your truest self in this moment and the person you long to become.
If you feel connected to this, I would love to hear your story!

Jessica knows her camera very well and is great at adjusting the tones to match each family’s vibe.
She is also very patient to my 2 year old son, who is always of full of energy. My son really enjoy the moment with her!
ZACK
Jessica is always happy to communicate and even over-communicate details such as the shooting flow, room setup, and styling, so I know exactly what to expect. She’s incredibly considerate!
Fanding
Jessica didn’t ask us to pose a lot. Instead, she guided us to simply do everyday things together, yet the photos turned out so natural and full of story. The two hours went by so quickly, and it felt like such a special bonding time with my daughter..
Yao
Jessica’s talent for photography comes from her ability to notice beauty in everyday moments. She has a gift for capturing subtle emotions—little details I might never have noticed myself.
Our session felt warm and cinematic, and she created such a relaxed and natural experience for our family. It was truly special.
